DNA

Semester Task: Essay This article https://www.theguardian.com/science/2018/sep/29/so-is-it-nature-not-nurture-after-all-genetics-robert-plomin-polygenic-testing  gave me some food for thought about the original DNA structure of product.    Nowadays, science allows people to change the original DNA structure of a product and endow in with new characteristics. Many genetically engineered products are already on the market. These include bacteria designed to digest oil slicks and industrial waste products, growth hormones for both humans and cows, drugs such as interferon and insulin, and pest-resistant plants. Some people claim that genetically modified food ought to be prohibited while others do not maintain this idea. Let us look into this controversial issue more thoroughly.    Firstly, as the technology is a young one, it has many side effects, such as mutations which could be harmful to the environment and our health. For example, they ...

A reflection note

So, another semester is coming to an end, and it’s time to make conclusions now. Your course of Academic Writing was interesting and quite productive.      The task I liked the most was one of the last tasks when we had to write a creative story choosing characters, theme, and even situation on a site that random all these criteria. In addition, we used different sources, but the most informative and engaging was the Guardian newspaper. There are lots of different articles on very actual and global themes. Besides, working in group of 2-3 people is a very good strategy as students learn to cooperate and also share their skills and experience.      Nevertheless, there were some drawbacks that I did not like. For example, the platform we use, Blogger, is very inconvenient because I had some difficulties with access and problems with loading the page. However, it is a good idea to upload our works on the Internet, bu...

What are the advantages and disadvantages of ever-increasing use of technology

Today we cannot imagine our lives without technologies as we live in a modern developed society. There is no doubt that technology has eased the life of human beings. It has proved to be a great boon in the development process of culture and society. However, too much of anything is bad.      First of all, technology has made human life comfortable. Everything that people see and use in a daily life is the gift of technology.  The clothes people wear, the mobile phone they carry, the television they watch, the house they live, the car they travel, the bridges are all the examples of successful implementation of technology. Secondly, printing press, internet, telephone, email, and other communication technologies have helped us to communicate on a global scale. For example, now my parents have a great opportunity to talk with relatives via Skype, send lots of messages not worrying about delivery time and use different gadgets that simplif...
Research every teacher should know: the value of student evaluation           In article “ Research every teacher should know: the value of student evaluation” Bradley Busch, psychologist, touches an interesting theme about teachers’ effectiveness. To know how schools measure how good a teacher is, is there a link between the duration of education and highly rated teacher, how bias can influence on student’s ratings of teacher and what this means for the classroom, the author applies to the existing studies of researchers from Mount Royal University in Canada.            Studies had shown that there is no evidence that students get more knowledge from high-rated teachers. Besides, it is being hard to evaluate a teacher basing on feelings of a student. However, people have different tastes and preferences, and it demonstrates the fin...
